Boarding takes place at the earliest 30 minutes and no later than 15 minutes prior to departure time. At the gangway you will be welcomed by the ship’s tour guide. The crew will help you with your luggage and also show you to your cabin
If you need a taxi when the ship arrives at the end of the cruise, the tour guide will then help you out. There is no taxi station at the quays, for which reason it can be difficult to flag a taxi in the vicinity.
Since weather and traffic conditions sometimes can cause delay it’s important to know that arrival times are approximate. Therefore you should always plan your continued travel on the day of arrival with a certain margin. If any additional costs arise due to delays that are beyond the cruise company’s control, it cannot be held responsible. For more information, please see Terms & Conditions
If you arrive by car to the port of departure you can get information about parking possibilities from the cruise company, but there is no long-stay parking neither at the quay in Gothenburg nor in Stockholm. In both Söderköping and Motala there is long-stay parking possibilities within walking distance to the quays.

Göta Canal Highlights
It is possible to book a bus transfer from Gothenburg to Mariestad or from Norsholm to Stockholm (or in the reverse direction) in conjunction with the cruise and this must be booked in advance. The bus departs from Gothenburg/arrives in Gothenburg by the Clarion Hotel Post (Drottningtorget Square). In Stockholm the bus departs from/arrives at the Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel (Vasagatan 1, next to the Central Station and the City Terminal). If you start your cruise with a bus transfer, the bus will then be available for boarding from 08:30 am until 08:45 am. If you wish to make the trip by bus, please contact us at least 10 days prior to the departure date of the cruise.
All passengers are covered by our insurande when on board the ship. But as soon as you go ashore this insurance is no longer valid and we therefore recommend you to purchase a separate accident or travel insurance.
Please, contact your insurance company before travelling to find out what your existing insurances are covering.
During the whole cruise a tour guide will be available on board. The tour guide will hold daily information meetings in three languages (Swedish, English and German) about the cruise and activities of the day. The tour guide will also tell about the history of the canal and local sites, provide practical information and guide some of the trips ashore.
The dining room and a lounge are located on shelter deck. In order to create a really peaceful and relaxing atmosphere on board, there is no radio or TV available.
For the comfort of all guests, mobile phone conversations should be limited to your cabin or ashore. Comfortable chairs for relaxing and warm blankets to huddle up in on chilly evenings as well as a bar are available on bridge deck.
Our cabins on board are charming, but small. With some exceptions the cabins are fitted with bunk beds and have more or less the same size as a sleeping compartment on a train. Since the space in the cabin is limited, we recommend that you bring a medium-sized bag that fits under the berth. There is a luggage room on board where larger suitcases can be stored.
If you are above average height (approx. 175 cm), please notify us well ahead of your cruise, so that you can be given one of the cabins with longer berth.
All cabins are fitted with a washbasin with hot and cold water. The water is drinkable. On all decks - except for shelter deck on M/S Diana – there are showers as well as toilets. All ships use 220 V and there are outlets in every cabin.
Drinks that you order with the meals or in the bar, as well as purchases made in the souvenir shop on board, will be added to a bill with your cabin number. You settle the bill on the last day of the cruise, using the most common credit cards (VISA, American Express, EuroCard and Master Card).
In the ship’s lounge there is a small library with varied non-fiction in Swedish, English and German. Here you find i.e. material on the canal, its surroundings and history. Most days you will also find Swedish and international magazines in the library. In the ship’s souvenir shop you can purchase books, postcards and souvenirs.
Once you have boarded and found your cabin, you are welcome to visit the dining room where you will be served coffee or tea.
An important part of the journey is of course the meals on board. We serve a fixed menu for lunch and dinner, two courses for lunch and three for dinner, prepared by our excellent kitchen staff. Every morning (except for the first day of the cruise) a breakfast buffet is served.
If you need any kind of special food (i.e. vegetarian, diabetic, allergies etc.), please let us know at least three weeks before departure. This way we’ll be able to provide you the same culinary experience as our other guests.
Most of our guided excursions are on foot and require a normal walking capacity. Read more about the excursions under the itinerary on the page of the cruise you are taking:
You can also read about the main attractions along the canal here.
There are many fine opportunities for running or walking on the old towpaths along the Göta Canal. Or if you prefer biking, there are two bicycles on the ship that you can borrow for explorations along the waterwa
Since a large part of the day is spent outdoors we recommend you comfortable daytime wear. You should bring a windproof jacket and at least one warm pullover as well as your summer wardrobe. We recommend comfortable walking shoes for the excursions. Tradition has it that the guests change to something a bit more elegant for dinner. It does not have to be dark suit, smart casual wear is quite enough.
Children joining our cruises must be at least seven years old and sleep in a separate berth. There are no special discounts for children.
Smoking is only permitted outdoors in designated areas and completely prohibited in the cabins, dining room and lounge. This is both for safety reasons as well as for the comfort of other guests.
Since the ships are old, stairways are steep and thresholds high. In addition to this, most of our shore excursions are on foot. Therefore, if you are physically disadvantaged, it ist important that you indicate this when you make your booking and also bring a personal companion during the cruise.
Please bring any requests, problems or complaints that arise during the cruise to the tour guide's attention at once. Most problems can be solved!
During the information meeting on the first day of the cruise, safety instructions will be supplied.
